Fortnite v8.20 Update Adds Boom Bow, Sniper Shootout LTM, Geometric Galleries

Fortnite’s v8.20 content update is now officially live and comes with the Boom Bow, among other goodies.

Battle Royale

Weapons and items

  • Boom Bow
  • Fires Arrows with a Shotgun Shell tip, which explode on impact.
  • Uses Shotgun Ammo
  • The longer you hold the fire keybind down, the stronger the shot! This increases both projectile speed and direct impact damage.
  • Explosive damage is consistent regardless of the power of the shot.
  • The Boom Bow will achieve maximum power after 1.6 seconds of charging.
  • A direct hit will deal both the direct hit damage and the explosion damage to the enemy player it impacts.

LTM: Sniper Shootout

  • In this limited time mode, players will do battle using sniper rifles. May the best aim win!
  • Only weapon drops are Sniper Rifles.
  • Floor Loot spawners reduced by 50%
  • Reviving “Down But Not Out” teammates in Duos & Squads is deactivated – be careful peeking!

Events – Arena

  • Fixed an issue that caused players to be unable to queue for Duos when the party leader was in a lower division.
  • Fixed an issue which caused players to not be promoted to the next division while playing in Duos with a player in a higher division.
  • Note: Hype was still being earned correctly, this was a visual issue only.
  • Fixed an issue where players in Duos were charged Bus Fare based on the party leaders division, rather than their own.

  • Fixed an issue where spectator numbers would not update, even after the spectator had left the game.
  • Fixed an issue that caused players to be unable to queue in the correct division level in the Arena game mode when the party leader was in a lower division.
  • Fixed an issue which caused the Poison Dart Trap to be hidden behind certain wall assets.
  • Fixed an issue where trap placement on walls would be blocked if a stair structure was attached to the wall.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented players from getting removed from the Baller when hit by a Boogie Bomb.
  • Fixed an issue preventing friend invites from displaying in the social panel.

Creative

  • Fixed an issue where Creature Spawners wouldn’t activate within the correct range after it has been resized.
  • Fixed an issue where the Phone Tool would emit two beams rather than one after copying multiple times.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented non-damaging traps (Ice Block, Bouncers, etc) from functioning if the Game was not started.
  • Fixed an issue where any Baller vehicle that was placed on an Island prior to v8.20 could not use the boost.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented vehicles from being damaged by Music Sequencer when damage was turned on.

Save the World

  • Re-enabled the X Marks the Spot sub-objective.
  • Fixed an issue where the X Marks the Spot objective was removing items from player inventories.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing B.A.S.E to incorrectly hover over player built structures.

The weekly patch for Fortnite has rolled out and v8.30 brings a number of changes, including the inclusion of Reboot Vans and Buccaneer’s Bounty Event along with a slew of technical improvements.

What’s New?

  • Bombsquad Kyle
  • Bolster your Hero’s armor with this new Legendary Constructor. This Hero is “The Bomb”.
  • **Lost in Transit Beta Storm  **
  • Don’t get Lost.. in transit to this new Beta Storm. Locate the supply trucks and put them back on course!

Missions + Systems

  • Beta Storm: Lost in Transit
    • We’ve lost our supply trucks; Find them and put them back on course!
      • You have 15 minutes to rescue 5 trucks and update their GPS’s to send them on their way. Some will be surrounded by the enemy, others will be under attack or need refueling.
      • Most of the area is covered in a storm and the safe area is on the move! Rescue all the trucks and survive the storm until evacuation.
  • Eliminate and Collect is now in the normal mission rotation and no longer a Beta Storm.
    • Added 3 new possible bonus objectives.

      • Trap Eliminations
    • Random encounters now start sooner and have less time between them.
    • Once the storm reaches its smallest point the encounters become much stronger.

UI

  • Abilities with charges now display a radial cooldown meter around the ability showing how much time is left before the next charge is ready.
  • Abilities will now display the energy battery icon while unusable due to not having enough energy.

  • Fixed an issue where the Reward Info could no longer be accessed with a gamepad on the Expedition Hero picker screen.
  • The “Craft Ammo” and “Set Minimum Value” for the slider buttons on the Summon Defender UI are no longer tied to the same gamepad button.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Research button to get stuck in place.
  • The choice card packs from the Llama opening sequence will now show the appropriate color for Mythic Heroes.

  • Fixed an issue that caused the Teleporter to appear on the Victory screen if held by a player.

  • Fixed a bug with the 6th perk of the Bundlebuss and Mercury LMG causing them to deal more damage than intended.
    • These weapons have been made eligible for a reset.
  • Fixed an issue that caused The Baron to not provide correct materials when recycled.

Epic Games Details Fortnite Update v8.20

Epic Games has outlined it’s upcoming update for Fortnite, v8.20 which will include fixes for Pirate Cannons, Clingers, and a Squad Fill preference bug.

According to Epic Games’ community coordinator Sean Hamilton (via Reddit):


Weapons + Items

  • Fixed an issue where Clingers were damaging players through walls when stuck to another player.
  • Fixed an issue preventing Glider item pickups from displaying their stack count.
  • Smoothed out the motion of grenade projectile trajectories, which were lagging behind by a tick.
  • Entering a vehicle no longer plays the release sound of balloons if you have no balloons.
  • The balloon rope will no longer remain on your back when you run out of balloons.
  • Fixed an issue where players were flying out of a Pirate Cannon in a different direction than expected.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the ability to enter a Pirate Cannon when close to other geometry.
  • Fixed the ability for players to finely tune Pirate Cannon’s ability to aim side to side.
  • Fixed an issue causing Buried Treasure to spawn loot on the Starting Island.

Gameplay

  • Fixed an issue with the icy feet effect remaining on indefinitely while emoting.
  • Traps now do damage to The Baller vehicle first before damaging the driver.
  • Fixed issue causing some traps to be inside thicker structures, making them hard to see.
  • Fixed a rare occurrence of a player being invulnerable while DBNO.
  • Fixed the camera sometimes traveling too far when cycling to another player.

Performance

  • Fixed an issue where poor server performance could cause undesired effects on clients such as unnecessary movement corrections.
  • Added a fix for a rare server crash.
  • Made a small server performance improvement related to the Baller vehicle.
  • Updated animation budgets to be more performant on higher scalability settings.

Art + Animation

  • Fixed a bug where the destruction effects were not playing on the Baller when it’s destroyed.
  • Audio
    • Fixed an issue where some items didn’t have proper audio when dropping them from inventory.
  • UI
    • Fixed issue with Main Menu icons becoming off-center.
    • Fixed a bug that was causing a player’s Squad Fill preference to reset to “Fill”.
    • Fixed an issue where scopes would be missing reticle lines on low settings.
  • Spectating
    • Fixed an occasional awkward camera movement that would occur when switching to different view targets while spectating.
  • Mobile
    • Fixed field of view on 21:9 devices.
    • Fixed an issue with quickbar and extra buttons that made it possible to cause fire state to be stuck on a continuous loop.
    • Fixed an issue causing the camera to jump on initial touch input.
    • Fixed an issue causing incorrect building pieces to gain focus when editing.
    • Fixed missing outline effect for squad members.
    • Fixed minimap remaining on screen during Victory Royale sequence.
