Players Revolting In Response To Fortnite’s Save the World Changes

A new update for Fortnite that was recently rolled out has ticked off a lot of gamers, and they are revolting in an effort to invoke a change from Epic.

The outrage is regarding an update to the ‘Save the World’ mode that re-rolled stats on “Dragon Weapons”, which are a rare set of guns that can be unlocked via turning in Firecracker Tickets, which are earned in the “Spring It On” event.

Naturally, the rage made it’s way to Reddit where gamers sounded off.

“Basically what happened is a lot of people spent money and countless hours trying to get the best rolls on their Dragon weapons, like Crit Chance” one gamer posted.

“With this new update, Epic rerolled basically all of everyone’s Dragon weapons to become trash and useless. And this was intentional by Epic. They meant to do this. The problem is that when you spend 50+ hours or $200 trying to get something, then Epic destroys it, you’re going to be absolutely pissed.”

More concerning is that a subreddit is filled with players who are threatening to leave the game.

“I’m devastated,” one gamer wrote, saying he spent a lot of money on the game only for those items to lose their power.

“I want my money back. My loadoats are ruined. My schematics have rerolls on them. Stat caps have made my seven mythic leads no better than legendaries IN TWINE PEAKS … Epic you have just spit in the face of your whales. Literally the worst thing a f2p game could possibly do.”

The outrage has prompted Epic Games to issue an apology.

“When we first released the Dragon Weapons they were able to roll completely invalid sets of perks. They could be very bad (5 grey perks) or absolutely amazing (5 gold perks), but in both cases they did not follow our normal perk rolling rules.”

According to Epic’s stated rules:

Legendary

If the schematic didn’t have at least one blue and one gold perk — the item was re-rolled.

If the schematic had more than two gray perks, four blue perks, or four gold perks — the item was re-rolled.

Epic

If the schematic didn’t have at least one blue perk — the item was rerolled.

If the schematic had more than two gray perks, three blue perks, or three gold perks — the item was rerolled

“The system for re-rolling perks is actively being worked on, and will empower you to pick and choose which perks you want to change on the weapon,” Epic stated. “

We’ve started some high level design work on the weapon perk re-roll system, it’s going to take some time.”

Overwatch 2

Blizzard is leveling up their efforts to thwart cheaters and misconduct within Overwatch 2, as the company aims to penalize players who are friends with cheaters and will amp up their monitoring of voice communications.

The company detailed this in the brand new update for its Defense Matrix Initiative, which is focused on curbing “gameplay sabotage, abusive chat, and cheating” stating their plan to come down on players who team up with cheaters, and more.

Blizzard admitted that cheating in Overwatch 2 is a problem and has “actioned over 50,000 accounts” since the game launched and starting in Season 3 they will be actively identifying players that purposely team up with players who are regularly flagged as cheaters, and will also face potential discipline.

Overwatch 2 will also have improved protection for streamers, as the issue of Stream sniping continues to be a problem, and in Season 3 they will be “introducing new streaming protection features that should be a huge step toward enabling content creators to share Overwatch 2 with their fans safely.”

Blizzard is encouraging players to report any disruptive or problematic behaviour in their matches.

EA and Respawn Entertainment is shutting down their Apex Legends mobile game with the company announced that they will be sunsetting the title this May with EA adding that they have also stopped development on a mobile Battlefield title.

According to Respawn Entertainment, the decision to sunset Apex Legends was not an easy one to make but the company said that “factors” beyond its control have prevented it from “maintaining the high-quality experience and content” players deserve and expect.

Despite the game having a rather strong start, Respawn said that the content pipeline for the game began to “fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence.”

EA announced that they made the decision to halt the Battlefield mobile title as they wish to create “deeply connected Battlefield ecosystem” which made them arrive at the decision to “pivot from the current direction”

“We remain highly committed to unlocking Battlefield’s enormous potential,” the company said in the statement. “We’re hard at work at evolving Battlefield 2042 and are in pre-production on our future Battlefield experiences at our studios across the globe.”
